Publishing the same book in a different language is really something very special to me as it evokes a mumber of questions in my mind.
Majority of the readers that ANUSHA, my publishing house caters are avid readers of the books written in Bengali, the language in which HIMMATRAM was originally written and published. Still, as a publisher this book is an important part of my emotion not only because it was the first fiction to be published by ANUSHA but also because in my opinion it is a literary classic that would survive through the decades to come as an outstanding story, a perfect blend of fact and fiction.
The background of HIMMATRAM is the early British period in India just after the so called 'Sepoy Mutiny' and in its small span the book has portrayed many aspects of the country that was emerging as the India we see and perceive today. The almost forgotten history of the great hedge that had separated the country with motive to harvest profit out of nothing has come vividly and has taken the dimension of a thrilling story on a historical background.
